What Developers Can Expect to Make on Kongregate
“The success of Flash games is all over the map,” says McClanahan. “They can be total duds or earn $100,000
from sponsorships, ad revenue, licensing, and micro-transaction revenue if the game is really successful. Five
to ten thousand dollars is a more normal range for what I'd consider a moderately successful Flash game , but
again, it's all over the place, and creating a moderately successful Flash game is actually pretty difficult to do.”
Kongregate's Unique Features
Live player chat and staff-created achievements for players are two of Kongregate's most unique features. Game
achievements (see Figure 7-5 earlier in this section) encourage players to compete with each other and them-
selves to play the same game repeated times, while live player chat fosters community and socialization among
the user base, which in turn leads to more players staying on the site for longer periods of time.
