Prototype Storyboard for Hatch Game Opening and
The storyboards shown in Figures A-3 and A-4 illustrate the design of a game's opening and on-ramping pro-
cess—an extremely important aspect of a free-to-play game, since the game's beginning and orientation must
be compelling and entertaining in itself, to convince first-time users to keep playing. To introduce players to
Hatch, Ryu and team sketched out an appealing character named Max, who'd appear at the beginning and con-
vey important gameplay elements in a humorous way.
