When we apply this fi ery noise layer as the Blur Layer, the
luminance of the fi re pattern is used to control where (and how
much) blur is applied to the layer. This creates a more interesting
pattern when the Maximum Blur value is increased to 100. Note
that this fractal fi re pattern animates. Preview this comp to see
the blur pattern move around as the fractal fi re pattern changes.
You could use such maps to create shockwave-type blur effects,
or the wavy distortion that appears over fl ames (Fig. 4.35 ).
