Terrain creaion in UDK is a litle diferent than it was in UE2. The process has been simpliied
and you no longer need to manually create the alpha maps for the terrain. The terrain
ediing mode interface has also been updated, and now it features a whole bunch of new
tools. The terrain now also supports deco layers with collision and lighing, terrain LODing,
light mapping, and automaic texturing based on the angle and height of the surface. For
this secion, we will only focus on the basic process of seing up a terrain and a bit of
informaion on its light mapping.
Time for action - your first terrain
Before you add a terrain to a level, be sure to have saved the level at least once, as the
terrain will atempt to save itself within the level, for which the level has to exist in the

add the Terrain actor at that locaion. Your terrain should show up as shown in the
